Steering clutch (1) Bevel gear shaft. (2) Bevel gear. (3) Bearing cage. (4) Hub. (5) Piston. (6) Friction discs. (7) Pressure plate. (8) Clutch plates. (9) Inner drum of the steering clutch. (10) Inner springs. (11) Outer springs. The steering clutches and final drives have main components: bevel gear (2), bevel gear shaft (1), the inner drum of steering clutch (9), friction discs (6), clutch plates (8), the outer drum of steering clutch (12) and of the brake, pinion gear (15) of the final drive, idler pinion gear (16), final drive gear (21), sprocket shaft (22) and sprocket (17). See Illustrations 1 and 2.The bevel gear and the steering clutches are in the bevel gear and steering clutch case. The bevel gear case is the reservoir for the transmission and steering hydraulic systems. As the bevel gear turns, lubricant is thrown on the bevel gear, on the bevel pinion and on the steering clutches. The bearings for the bevel gear shaft are lubricated from the steering control valve. The final drive cases are fastened to the bevel gear and steering clutch case. The final drive cases are reservoirs for oil for the final drives. When a steering clutch is engaged, the force of springs (10) and (11) keeps pressure plate (7), clutch plates (8) and friction discs (6) against inner drum (9). Power is transmitted from the inner drum through the discs to the outer drum. The steering clutches are normally engaged. When a steering clutch is released, pressure oil from the hydraulic controls for the steering clutches moves piston (5) toward the outside of the machine. The piston pushes on the spring retainer. The spring retainer compresses springs (10) and (11). At the same time, the spring retainer pushes pressure plate (7) toward the outside of the machine. The pressure plate separates from clutch plates (8) and from friction discs (6). The clutch plates and friction discs are not held together. Power is not transmitted from the inner drum to the outer drum.

Final drive (12) Outer drum of the steering clutch, and brake drum. (13) Hub. (14) Duo-Cone seal. (15) Final drive pinion. (16) Idler pinion gear. (17) Sprocket. (18) Duo-Cone seal. (19) Bearing cage. (20) Support. (21) Final drive gear. (22) Sprocket shaft.Splines connect both ends of bevel gear shaft (1) to drive hub (4). The drive hubs are fastened to inner drums (9) of the steering clutches. Teeth connect clutch plates to the inner drums. Teeth connect friction discs (6) to outer drum (12). The outer drum is fastened to drive hub (13) of pinion (15). Pinion (15) is engaged with idler gear (16). The idler gear is engaged with final drive gear (21). Splines connect sprocket (17) to the final drive gear. The teeth of the sprocket are engaged with the track pins. When a steering clutch is engaged, the flow of power to inner drum (9) is from bevel gear (2) through the bevel gear shaft. The inner drum turns clutch plates (8). The clutch plates
