Marine Monitoring System
Note: For more detailed information, see the Owner's Manual, SEBU7134, "3600 Diesel Marine Monitoring System".The Marine Monitoring System is controlled by a programmable logic control. The system uses a microprocessor to provide engine control and engine monitoring. The system enables an operator to use a display screen for controlling and for monitoring engine operation.When the package for annunciation is included, the operator is alerted to conditions that can cause alarms and shutdowns. The Marine Monitoring System can stop the engine if the engine operation reaches a setpoint that is programmed for shutdown. However, the system can be overridden in order to avoid a shutdown.Marine Engine Control Panel

(13) Screen Note: The "ENGINE SPEED" gauge, "STARTING AIR PRESSURE" gauge, and "ENGINE HOURS" meter are provided as a backup to the monitoring system. The gauges may be used for basic engine operation that is independent of the programmable logic control and the display screen. Also, the switches and the "EMERGENCY STOP" button on the control panel operate independently, if necessary. However, power must be supplied to the control panel in order for the components to operate.The control panel requires a 24 volt DC power source. The system activates this self test when the power is supplied: flashing of the indicators, movement of the gauge needles and annunciation of the alarm (if equipped). The duration of the self test is approximately three seconds."ENGINE SPEED" gauge (tachometer) (1) - This gauge indicates the engine rpm. The signal for this gauge is provided by a magnetic pickup that is mounted in the flywheel housing."STARTING AIR PRESSURE" gauge (2) - This gauge indicates the air supply pressure for the starting motor and the shutoffs."ENGINE HOURS" meter (3) - This meter indicates the total hours of engine operation. The signal for this meter is provided by the Engine Speed Switch. This meter is used for scheduling engine maintenance. Do not use the hour meter from the programmable logic control for scheduling maintenance."SUMMARY SHUTDOWN" indicator (4) - This red indicator illuminates for an engine shutdown. A flashing light indicates a shutdown that is not acknowledged. A continuous light indicates that the shutdown has been acknowledged. The cause of the shutdown is provided by the display screen. To acknowledge the indicator, turn the "ACKN and LAMP TEST" switch to the "ACKN" position. Correct the condition before restarting the engine. The control panel must be reset before the engine can be restarted. To reset the control panel, turn the "OFF/RESET, LOCAL, and REMOTE" switch to the "OFF/RESET" position. The air shutoff is activated for any shutdown. The air shutoff must also be reset before the engine can be restarted. If an overspeed shutdown occurs, the Engine Speed Switch must also be reset."SUMMARY
