SPACER 4V4500 - Caterpillar

At operating temperature the engine oil is hot. Hot oil can cause severe burns. Do not attempt to perform and maintenance on the vehicle until components are cool enough to touch with the bare hand.
1. Remove two bolts (1) from tube assembly (2). The clamp and the spacer are not shown and are behind the oil filter element.2. Remove two bolts (4) from tube assembly (3). Remove the spacer and the clamp holding tube assembly (2) in place. 3. Remove four bolts (6) and the washers.4. Remove the oil filter base and filter element (5) as a unit with the tube assemblies attached. The following steps are for the installation of the oil filter and base.5. Position the oil filter base and filter element (5).6. Install four bolts (6) and the washers.7. Put tube assembly (3) in place. Install two bolts (4) and the spacer and the clamp holding tube assemblies (3) in place.8. Position tube assembly (2), and install two bolts (1). Refer to the Topic "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" in the "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for the proper filling procedure and the proper levels for the engine.Disassemble & Assemble Oil Filter & Base
Start By:a. remove oil filter and base 1. Remove tube assemblies (2) and (3).2. Remove O-ring seals (1).
There is spring force against cover (6). When bolts (5) that hold the cover in position are removed, the spring force will be released. To prevent possible personal injury, hold the cover in position as the bolts which hold it are slowly removed.
Bolts (5) are longer than bolts (4). Removing them last will relieve the spring pressure against the cover.3. Remove two bolts (4). Remove two bolts (5) while holding cover (6) in place with your hand to contain spring pressure.
Do not interchange the springs and the plungers in the base. Install them in their original positions.
4. Remove plungers (8), springs (9) and gasket (10).5. Remove dust cap (11) and the sampling valve and the O-ring. The following steps are for the assembly of the oil filter & base.6. Install the sampling valve with the O-ring and dust cap (11).7. Install plungers (8), springs (9) and gasket (10).8. Position cover (6) in place, and install two bolts (5).9.
