Inject starting aid (ether), only while cranking the engine, or after initial start-up, until the engine is running smoothly.Use sparingly, excessive ether without cranking can cause piston and ring damage.Wait approximately two seconds before injecting again.Use ether for cold starting purposes only.After every 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow two minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again.Turbocharger damage can result, if the engine rpm is not kept low until the engine oil light/gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
Note: The key must be returned to the off position if the engine fails to start. Turning the key to the OFF position will enable the key to function properly.

Move the transmission control (1) to the NEUTRAL (N) position.
Unlock the steering column. Move the steering column to the desired position and lock the steering column.
Engage the parking and secondary brake .
Move the control levers to the HOLD position.
Turn the engine start switch key (2) to the START position in order to start the engine.
Push the top of the ether starting aid switch (3) and release.
Operate the ether starting aid switch at two second intervals as the engine is cranked. Continue use until the engine starts and the engine is running smoothly.
Release the engine start switch key after the engine starts. Release the governor control pedal after the engine starts.
If oil pressure does not raise within 10 seconds after the engine starts, stop the engine and make necessary repairs.
For starting below -18°C (0°F), the use of cold weather starting aids is recommended. One of the following may be required.
A coolant heater
A fuel heater
A jacket water heater
