Secondary Steering Pressure Switch SchematicCID 0794 FMI 04 service code can only be recorded if the optional secondary steering system is installed. The secondary steering system must be energized in the power train electronic control module (ECM) software via the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) configuration screen. The power train ECM performs this function with pressure sensor switch inputs, a test switch, and a relay driver. CID 0794 FMI 04 is detected if both inputs are grounded. Before performing this procedure refer to table 1 in order to determine the connector and contact that corresponds to the faulty circuit.Note: Ensure that the desired fault CID 0794 FMI 04 fault is active.

Pressure High     Closed     Open    Note: Step 1 can create other faults that the power train ECM will detect. Ignore these created faults and clear the created faults when CID 0794 FMI 04 is corrected.
Check the electrical connectors and the wiring.
Turn the key start switch to the OFF position. Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Thoroughly inspect the power train ECM machine harness connector, the power train ECM connectors, and the secondary steering pressure switch terminals in the connectors.
Check the power train ECM connector (Allen head screw) for a correct connection.
Check the harness and the wiring for abrasion and pinch points. Check from the back of the secondary steering pressure switch connector to the power train ECM.Expected Result: The wiring and the connectors are correct. Results:
OK - The wiring and connectors are correct. Proceed to Step 2.
NOT OK - Repair the wiring and/or connectors. If necessary, replace the wiring and/or connectors. Ensure all seals are correctly in place and the connectors are completely mated. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem. Clear all diagnostic codes. If conditions are not resolved, proceed to next step.
Verify the harness.
Turn the disconnect switch to the ON position. Turn the key start switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the connector for the secondary steering pressure switch.
The active CID 0794 FMI 04 fault should change to an active CID 0794 FMI 03.Expected Result: The active CID 0794 FMI 04 changes to an active CID 0794 FMI 03.Results:
OK - The active CID 0794 FMI 04 changes to an active CID 0794 FMI 03 after disconnecting the secondary steering pressure switch. Thoroughly inspect the switch connector for defects. Reconnect the pressure switch. If the fault code CID 0794 FMI 03 reappears, the secondary steering pressure switch is the problem. Replace the pressure switch. Clear all diagnostic codes. STOP.
NOT OK - The active CID 0794 FMI 04 remains active. There is a harness problem. Proceed to Step 3.
Check the wires for the secondary steering pressure switch for continuity to ground.
Disconnect the power train ECM connectors and the secondary steering pressure switch connector.
Check both pressure switch inputs at the power train ECM for continuity to ground.Expected Result:
