Operation Description:When it is perceived that the hydraulic response to implement commands is poor, a number of machine conditions could be the cause.Is the correct power mode activated?The Machine Control ECM can activate three different power modes for machine operation. Two of the power modes can be selected by the operator for machine operation. The two operator selectable power modes are the "Economy Mode" and the "Power Mode". The third power mode that the ECM can activate during machine travel or under certain other machine conditions is the "Travel Mode".The Operator selects either the Economy Mode or the Power Mode using the Power Mode Button on the Soft Switch Panel (SSP).When the ECM activates a power mode, the ECM will use the current output for the Main Pump Power Shift Solenoid and the Swing Pump Power Shift Solenoid to adjust the output of the main pump and the swing pump.The ECM will supply the electrical current to the Swing Pump Power Shift Solenoid based on the software map that is defined for each different machine model. The ECM will also factor in a "Swing Aggressiveness" offset parameter that can be configured by the operator to change the speed at which the machine swing function will operate. The parameter can be configured using Cat ET or in the Monitor "Performance" menu. This parameter avoids the need to perform a calibration procedure for the swing pump. The ECM will supply the electrical current to the Main Pump Power Shift Solenoid based on the software map that is defined for each different machine model and the Cat ET calibration procedure that is performed on the main pump.Is the Hydraulic Modulation Function active?When the function is enabled, the ECM will use the selected Hydraulic Modulation setting to adjust the response of the implement hydraulics to input commands.The Hydraulic Modulation Function allows the operator to select between three levels of hydraulic sensitivity. The three levels are Low, Medium or High. The level of sensitivity can be selected from the Hydraulic Modulation menu in the Monitor. Once the level of Hydraulic Modulation is selected, the Machine Control ECM will communicate the correct output command to the Implement Control 2 ECM on the J1939 Data Link. The Implement Control 2 ECM will execute the command to the Hydraulic Modulation Solenoid. The solenoid will allow the hydraulic oil flow to be adjusted in order to change the sensitivity of the tool movement.Before performing the following procedure, verify that the following operator selectable operating parameters are correct.
The Power Mode is selected on the SSP and the corresponding LED Indicator ON steady. (A flashing indicator means the ECM is waiting for machine conditions to be correct before activating the mode.)
The Swing Aggressiveness offset is set to a value that permits acceptable swing performance.
