9-1 Storage Of Pump Units As Marketable Products
(1) For the pump units to be held in storage as marketable products, the maximum storage time should not exceed 12 months. Unless otherwise permissible, the 12 months limit should be adhered to in storing any pump units of marketable-product status. A pump unit which has remained in storage in excess of the limit should be overhauled in order to replace all of its seal parts and to make sure that its internal parts are free from rusting or any other flaws.(2) When releasing a pump unit from storage to the customer, after it has stayed in storage for 6 months or longer, test it by running under load to make sure the unit runs satisfactorily without any evidence of malcondition and without exhibiting any leakage from the oil seals.(3) Before placing pump units in storage, give them the following anti-rust treatment: 1) Cleaning (external) a. With a clean, dry cloth, wipe the entiere exterior surfaces of the pump unit, removing dust, stains and moisture.b. For the cleaning fluid, use a petroleum-derivative fluid. Trichloroethylene (TRICHLENE) may be used instead if use of this solvent is not banned by law.c. To remove fingerprints, use methyl alcohol or a fingerprint remover, a solvent commerically sold as such (equivalent of NP-O, JIS Z 1804).d. Brushing and wiping are permitted.e. Do not use the solvent on paint-coated surfaces, rubber parts and those parts of organic materials, or any other parts which are adversely affected by the solvent.2) Internal rust prevention Select a proper anti-rust compound meeting the specifications of NP-20-1, Grade 1, JIS Z 1806, and inject the compound into the pump unit by spraying or pouring in an amount equal to at least 2% of the internal space. Make the pump unit gas-tight.The compound, specified above, is volatile; it is effective in protecting metal surfaces exposed to the air whose moisture content is likely to precipitate and form dew.3) External rust prevention Protect the external surfaces not paint-coated against rusting, as follows:a. Apply, with a brush, an anti-rust compound (equivalent of NP-19, Grade 4, JIS Z 1801) to drive shaft, mounting flange and port flange.b. After applying the anti-rust compound, wrap the whole of the pump unit in a vinyl sheet or VPI paper, tying up the sheet by taping as necessary, and place the wrapped pump unit in a properly ventilated room.c. At the time of releasing the pump unit from storage, remove the anti-rust compound by wiping with a cloth. A solvent, not affecting rubber or like parts, may be used in this cleaning.(4) Place of storage The place of storage shall be clean, dry and free from elements of nature, not admitting the direct sun. The 12 months limit stated above presupposes such a place of storage. Deterioration, if any, of storage environment requires the limit to be shortened, making it mandatory to carry out the after-storage overhaul earlier.9-2 Storage Of Parts
