RENR5246 Track Speed Synchronization Calibration
The track speed synchronization calibration is performed while the engine is ON. This calibration is for speed ranges 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Track speed synchronization calibration for speed range 1 is performed in the preceding topic "Minimum Track Speed Calibration".
Start the engine and warm the machine up to normal operating temperature.
Check the indicator for the transmission system on the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Expected Result: The indicator for the transmission system is NOT FLASHING.Results:YES - The indicator is not flashing. The hydrostatic transmission ECM is not reporting a diagnostic code at this time. Proceed to Step 3.NO - The indicator is flashing. The ECM is reporting a diagnostic code at this time. The problem must be corrected prior to performing calibrations. Go to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Code List".
Enter calibration mode 5 of the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Press and hold both the "SERVICE" switch and the "CLEAR" switch at the same time. Release the switches when "-5-" is showing in the display. The indicator for the transmission system should now be ON. This confirms the fact that the calibration mode is entered.

Display Area That Shows The Information For Submode 16
(1) Submode identifier
(2) Speed range identifier
(3) Accept status identifier
(4) Machine speed identifier
Enter submode 16 (track speed synchronization calibration). Press and hold the "SERVICE" switch. Release the switch when "16" is showing on submode identifier (1).
Move the throttle lever to the HIGH IDLE position. The engine must be at high idle in order for the calibration to be correct.
Place the sdirection/speed control lever in a position so that the speed range identifier (2) is showing "2". This is a slow forward position. The "2" will be flashing.
The synchronization of the track must now be determined. When the machine is in speed range 3 through 6, the difference in speed between the right and the left tracks is shown on machine speed identifier (4). When the value that is displayed is negative, the speed of the right track is slower than the speed of the left track. The tracks are synchronized when the machine speed identifier (4) shows a value that is very close to "000". Note: When the machine is in speed range 1 or 2, it is necessary to physically observe whether the machine is travelling in a straight line. While speed range 1 or 2 is selected, the machine speed identifier (4) will probably be showing "000". The system cannot measure small values for machine speed. The left and right tracks are synchronized when the machine travels in a straight line. Expected Result: With the direction/speed control lever in the position for the speed range that is desired, the machine speed identifier (4) shows a value that is close to "000". When the machine is in speed range 1 or 2 the machine travels in a straight line. Results:YES - The speed range is synchronized. To complete the calibration, repeat this Step with the direction/speed control lever in
