Rework Procedure
Before going to the Customer Site:
1. If you are replacing a PL522, review REHS8850 for all the tools required to perform the 2G-3G upgrade from a legacy Product Link to a PLE641. If you are replacing a PL421, review REHS9111.
Note: A ethernet service cable is required to flash the telematics device and radio.
2. Research the machine prefix in SIS and take a look at all associated service magazines and service letters that have been published.
3. Search the machine serial number in SIS and download all of the firmware files.
Note: As of 2014, Flash Files are no longer downloaded individually and are downloaded as a package.
At the machine:
1. Perform installation instructions REHS8850 when replacing a PL522 with a PLE641. Perform installation instructions REHS9111 when replacing a PL421 with a PL641. Make sure to follow the entire process until the device performs a successful communication check.
2. If the device is not communicating, refer to UENR5823 to troubleshoot a PLE641, and refer to UENR5824 to troubleshoot a PL641.
3. After the installation is complete, connect up to the machine using Cat ET, and take a Product Status Report (PSR).
4. After the PSR is finished, save an ECM replacement file for every single ECM. Go to Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM replacement. Select Load from ECM for each ECM, and save each configuration to a secure location.
5. After all of the ECM replacement files have been saved, apply the flash file package through Winflash.
Note: As of 2014, flash files are no longer flashed individually per ECM, and are flashed as a package. Load the new FL3, and follow the screens to find which ECM to update.
6. Once the flash process is completed, reprogram the ECMs with the previously saved ECM replacement files. Go back to Service -> Copy Configuration -> ECM Replacement, and load each ECM replacement file separately. Then select the Program ECM option at the bottom left and apply the configuration to the correct ECM.
7. Once the installation is completed, contact your local PL administrator to deactivate the current legacy device by canceling the subscription from the VisionLink store and expiring the asset history.
Note: The PL administrator needs to log onto the the Trimble VisionLink Store, Select Asset Base tab -> Cancel Services tab-> fill in Asset Serial No -> Check select all-> Cancel Services. Once the subscription is canceled, the asset history must also be expired. Select Asset Base tab -> Asset base -> Select device -> Expire. It is critical that the subscription is canceled and
