Remove the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Follow Step 1.a through Step 1.c in order to install the crankshaft positioning tool.
Remove plug (4) from Position (X) in the cylinder block.
Remove O-ring seal (3) from plug (4).
Install Tooling (A) into the cylinder block in Position (Z). Note: Tooling (A) must be located in Hole (Y) in the crankshaft.Note: Ensure that Tooling (A) is located in the correct drilling in the crankshaft as shown in Illustration 1.

Remove bolts (6) from rocker shaft (4) in the reverse numerical sequence shown in Illustration 3.
Remove rocker shaft (4) from the cylinder head.
Make temporary identification marks on push rods (5). Remove the push rods from the cylinder head.
Remove wear caps (3) from the valve stems. Identify the position of the wear caps in order for the wear caps to be installed in the original location.
If necessary, remove dowel (7) (not shown).
