Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.Steam can cause personal injury.Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Remove the cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure.Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.
Note: Put identification marks on all hoses, on all hose assemblies, on all harness assemblies, and on all tube assemblies for installation purposes. Plug all hose assemblies and all tube assemblies to prevent fluid loss, and to prevent contaminants from entering the system.Start By:
Remove the air cleaner.
Remove the brake accumulator.
Remove the transmission oil filter base.
Remove the hydraulic oil filter.
Remove the drive shaft (center).
Remove the drive shaft (rear).
Remove the piston pump (steering).
Drain the transmission oil into a suitable container for storage or disposal.
Drain the hydraulic system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove hose assemblies (6) and (8). Remove valve (7).

Attach Tooling (A), (B), and a suitable lifting device to torque converter, transmission, and output transfer gears (9). The weight of torque converter, transmission, and output transfer gears (9) is approximately 1135 kg (2502 lb).

Remove mount bolt (10). Repeat for the opposite side.

Remove bolts (11) and the washers.

Lift torque converter, transmission, and output transfer gears (9) slightly.
Remove mount (12). Repeat for the opposite side.

Remove bolts (13). Remove bracket (14).
Remove torque converter, transmission, and output transfer gears (9).
