4. Remove front differential fill plug and fill differential. See REFILL CAPACITIES. 5. Remove rear differential fill plug and fill differential. See REFILL CAPACITIES. 6. Clean and install fill plugs. It may be necessary to stop or slow filling occasionally to allow time for lubricant to flow to final drives.7. Start engine and operate machine on level ground for a few minutes.8. Stop machine on level ground, lower bucket with slight down pressure, stop engine and apply parking brake. 9. Remove fill plug and observe oil level. Oil level should be to bottom of differential fill plug openings.(27)Engine Valve Lash
Clearance: INLET VALVES - .015 inch (0.38 mm) EXHAUST VALVES - .025 inch (0.64 mm) Measure valve lash with engine stopped and cold. Do not use starting motor to turn crankshaft.
Turn crankshaft in direction of normal rotation only.
1. Remove valve cover. 2. Remove plug from timing bolt hole in flywheel housing. Turn flywheel slowly until No. 1 inlet and exhaust valves close.3. Install a 3/8 inch NC bolt, 3 inches (76 mm) long, into timing hole in flywheel. 4. Measure lash of No. 1 and No. 2 inlet valves. Measure lash of No. 1 and No. 3 exhaust valves. Adjust valves if necessary. See next page.5. Remove timing bolt.6. Rotate flywheel 360° to close No. 4 inlet and exhaust valves.7. Insert timing bolt in flywheel.8. Measure lash of No. 3 and No. 4 inlet valves. Measure lash of No. 2 and No. 4 exhaust valves. Adjust valves if necessary.9. Remove timing bolt and install plug.10. Start engine and run at low idle. Inspect valve assemblies for proper lubrication.11. Install valve cover.12. Tighten bolts to 8 2 lb ft (11 3 N m) in sequence shown at right. Do not overtighten or distortion and leakage may occur.To Adjust Valve Lash
1. Loosen adjusting screw locknut. 2. Turn adjusting screw in to close gap, out to open gap (see preceeding page for correct lash). 3. Hold adjusting screw and tighten locknut to 24 5 lb ft (33 7 N m). 4. Measure adjustment again.5. Remove timing bolt from flywheel and flywheel housing. 6. Install plug in flywheel housing. 7. Install valve cover (see above for correct bolt tightening sequence).(28)Crankcase Breather
1. Loosen breather hose clamp. 2. Loosen breather mounting clamp and remove breather assembly.3. Remove mesh element.4. Wash element in clean solvent.5. Blow or shake element dry.6. Assemble breather and install on engine.7. Connect breather hose.(29)ROPS (If Equipped)
Inspect condition and tighten mounting bolts to 875 90 lb ft (1200 125 N m).(30)Hydraulic System
Hot oil and components can cause injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.
Oil warm, machine level, bucket lowered with slight down pressure, parking brake set and engine stopped. Move controls to help relieve system pressure. 1. Remove hydraulic tank filler cap slowly to relieve pressure. 2. Open hydraulic tank drain valve and allow oil to drain.Change hydraulic oil filter. See Item (21). 3. Close tank drain valve.4.
