A 1P-1855 Retaining Ring Pliers 1 Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install O-ring plug (10) and the O-ring seal onto final drive filter base (2).
Install two O-ring plugs (4) and the O-ring seals onto final drive filter base (4).

Install spring (9) and spool (8) into filter base (2), as shown.

Install spring (5) (not shown) and retainer (7) into housing (3).
Use Tool (A) (not shown) in order to install retaining ring (6) onto housing (3).

Install the hydraulic filter element (not shown) into housing (3). Install housing (3) and the O-ring seal onto final drive filter base (2). Note: Do not tighten housing (3) onto final drive filter base (2) at this time. It will be easier to tighten housing (3) onto final drive filter base (2) when the power train filter (rear axle) is installed onto the rear axle housing.
Install O-ring plug (4) and the O-ring seal onto housing (3).

Install filter bypass switch (1) and the O-ring seal onto final drive filter base (2). End By:
Install the power train filter (rear axle). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Filter (Rear Axle) - Install".
