Operator Alert and Warning System
If the malfunction warning horn sounds, stop the engine. It could indicate: 1. Low air pressure.2. Low coolant flow in either engine.3. Low scraper engine oil pressure.4. High scraper engine coolant temperature.5. High scraper converter/retarder temperature.6. A stalled engine.Check gauges and indicators frequently during operation. Stop the machine and investigate any improper readings. If the gauge shows low tractor engine oil pressure, stop the engine. Have necessary repairs made. If tractor coolant temperature is high, check for coolant leaks. If no leaks are found, operate the engine at high idle with no load to dissipate engine heat. Stop the engine and have repairs made if a leak is found. If the tractor converter/retarder temperature is high, discontinue retarder use. Operate the engine at high idle with no load to dissipate the heat. If the transmission synchronization light goes on, shift the transmission to neutral. Stop the engines and have necessary repairs made.If the malfunction warning horn sounds, stop the machine and check the gauges and indicators as follows: 1. Check the air pressure indicator light and gauge. If the light is on, allow air pressure to build to normal. Have repairs made if pressure will not build. 2. Check the coolant flow lights. If a light is on it could indicate a stalled engine or a malfunction.a. Stop the engine if it is running. Have repairs made.b. If the engine has stalled, restart it. Watch the coolant flow light and oil pressure gauge for correct readings. Stop the engine if the readings are not correct. Have repairs made.3. If air pressure and coolant flow lights are off, stop the engines. Investigate the scraper panel gauges. 4. If scraper engine coolant temperature is high and no coolant leaks are apparent, start and operate the scraper engine at high idle with no load. If a leak is present have repairs made. 5. If scraper converter/retarder temperature is high, start and operate the engine at high idle with no load to dissipate the heat. Do not use the retarder until the oil cools. 6. If coolant and converter temperatures are correct, start the scraper engine and watch the engine oil pressure gague. If it does not register in 10 seconds, stop the engine. Have repairs made.Changing Speed and Direction
First, second, and reverse are torque converter drive. They are selected manually. The automatic range, third through eight, is direct drive.The transmission will shift automatically between second and the highest speed selected in the automatic range. This depends on ground speed and engine rpm.Select the highest usable speed in the automatic range. Manual shifting is not necessary or recommended. However, if more wheel torque is needed, shift manually to first speed.
Engine overspeed can result if the machine is shifted into first speed at over 5 mph (8 kph).The transmission is equipped with a downshift inhibitor for gears second through seventh.
