Remove the guards for the power train. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Guard (Transmission) - Remove and Install".
Remove the rear tires. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Rear) - Remove".Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove bolts (1) and disconnect rear drive shaft (2). Place rear drive shaft (2) to the side.

Disconnect harness assembly (4) .

Remove clips (5) and pull harness assembly (4) through the service brake housing. Position harness assembly (4) to the side.

Remove guards (10) and (11). Disconnect hose assemblies (7) and (9). Cut cable strap (6) and disconnect harness assembly (8) .

Disconnect tube assembly (13). Remove clamp (12) .

Remove clamp (15). Use Tooling (A) in order to disconnect hose assembly (14) .

Remove clamp (17) and disconnect hose assembly (17) .

Install Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to rear axle assembly (18). The weight of rear axle assembly (18) is approximately 1225 kg (2700 lb). Remove bolts (19). Repeat for the other support. Remove rear axle assembly (18) .
