start by:a) remove flywheelb) remove starting motor 1. Remove fuel lines (1) and (2) from the fuel injection pump.2. Remove fuel lines (3) and (4) from the fuel transfer pump.3. Remove six bolts that hold the oil pan to the flywheel housing.
Do not cause damage to the oil pan gasket.
4. Loosen bolts (5) that hold the oil pan to the cylinder block approximately .125 in. (3.18 mm). Pull oil pan (6) clear of the flywheel housing. 5. Remove six bolts (7) that hold the flywheel housing to the cylinder block.6. Remove clip (8) from the flywheel housing. 7. Install tooling (A) on the flywheel housing as shown. Fasten a hoist to the flywheel housing.8. Remove bolts (9) that hold the flywheel housing to the cylinder block. Remove flywheel housing (10). The weight of the flywheel housing is 192 lb. (87 kg).Install Flywheel Housing
1. Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces of the cylinder block and flywheel housing. Install a new gasket (1) on the cylinder block.2. Install tooling (A) on the flywheel housing as shown. Fasten a hoist to the flywheel housing. Put flywheel housing (2) in position on the cylinder block. 3. Install the bolts that hold the flywheel housing to the cylinder block. Tighten bolts 1 through 9 in number sequence to a torque of 100 10 lb.ft. (135 14 N m). Tighten bolts 10 through 19 in number sequence to a torque of 40 5 lb.ft. (55 7 N m). Tighten bolts 1 through 9 again to a torque of 100 10 lb.ft. (135 14 N m). Tighten bolts 10 through 19 again to a torque of 40 5 lb.ft. (55 7 N m).4. Cut flywheel housing gasket off even with the cylinder block surface. 5. Install the six bolts that hold oil pan (3) to the flywheel housing. Tighten the remainder of the bolts that hold the oil pan to the cylinder block. 6. Connect fuel lines (6) and (7) to the fuel transfer pump.7.
