Removal Procedure
Start By:
Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release".
Remove the operator platform from the right side of the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Operator Platform and Fender (Rear) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, all hoses and all tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.
Drain the implement hydraulic system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7362, "980G Series II Wheel Loader", "Hydraulic System Oil - Change" for the correct procedure.

Disconnect three tube assemblies (2) from hydraulic tank (1). Disconnect any additional oil supply tubes from hydraulic tank (1), as required.

Disconnect hose assembly (3) from hydraulic tank (1) .
Disconnect three hose assemblies (4) from hydraulic tank (1) .

Disconnect three hose assemblies (6) from the top of the hydraulic tank.
Disconnect three hose assemblies (5), (7), and (8) from the top of the hydraulic tank.
Remove tube (9), if necessary. Disconnect any additional hoses or tubes from the hydraulic tank, as required.

Disconnect electrical connector (10). Disconnect any additional electrical connectors from the hydraulic tank, as required.

Support the hydraulic tank, as shown.

Remove two bolts (11), two washers, two spacers and two nuts.

Remove four bolts (12) and the washers. Remove the hydraulic tank. The weight of the hydraulic tank is 286 kg (630 lb).
