Install the two tubes (11) in the base (10).

Install new O-ring seals (13) on the housing assemblies (12). Install the housing assemblies (12) on the base (10).

Install two 1/2 inch guide pins (14) in the top two holes of the base.
Install new O-ring seals (15) in the housing (16).
Put the housing (16) on the guide pins (14) in the original position.
Illustration 5 g00553241Note: The illustration shows the upper housing with an opening for placement of a bypass valve. There is no opening for a bypass valve on this housing. Illustration 6 shows the correct housing on the engine.

Install new O-ring seals (21) on the tubes (23). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seals.
Install the tubes (23) in the housing (16).
Install new O-ring seals (22) in the housing (19).
Install the housings (19).

Install the piston (25) and the spring (26) into the changeover valve (24) so that the retaining ring (27) can be installed.
Install the O-ring seal (28) on the changeover valve (24). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal (28). Note: The later changeover valves have additional O-ring seals. The illustration is of an earlier changeover valve.

Put clean engine oil on the changeover valve (24). Install the changeover valve (24) into the housing (16). Ensure that the changeover valve (24) moves freely in the housing (16).

Put a new O-ring seal on the cover (29). Put clean engine oil on the O-ring seal.
Ensure that the piston (25) in the changeover valve (24) is in the position that is shown in Illustration 9. Install the cover (29) on the housing (16) so that the inside groove will be in the position that is shown in Illustration 9.
Install the ball (30), spring (31), and plug (32) with a new seal.

Install a new O-ring seal on the plate (34).
Engage the pin on the tube assembly (33) with the slot in the changeover valve (24).
Fasten the plate (34) to the housing (16).

Install the bolts that hold the support assembly (36).
Fasten the support assembly (36) to the housing assemblies.
Engage the shaft assembly (35) with the tube assembly (33). Ensure that the indicator on the shaft assembly (35) is pointing to the valve function on the instruction film.
Install the bolt and the locknut in order to hold the shaft assembly (35) to the tube assembly (33).
Use a socket and extension in order to turn the shaft assembly (35) to each position. Each position is detented. Each position must be felt separately.

Install the three filter elements (37) in each wire rack. Move the wire racks and the filter elements into the oil filter housing assemblies.

Put new O-ring seals in the covers (38).
Install the covers (38) with the valves on the bottom. End By:
