Before making an adjustment to the accumulator pressure, measure dimension (Y). Dimension (Y) should be between 15 mm (0.6 inch) and 40 mm (1.6 inch). If dimension (Y) is less than 15 mm (0.6 inch), check to ensure that the accumulator is assembled into the track roller frame correctly. Refer to the Disassembly & Assembly manual, "Track Adjuster and Recoil Cylinder - Remove and Install"
If dimension (Y) is greater than 40 mm (1.6 inch), check the recoil cylinder for the correct charge level. Follow the procedure below to add nitrogen to the accumulator.Test Procedure

Loosen the two bolts on the gas valve protector (2). Remove the top bolt and rotate gas valve protector (2) out of the way.

Clean protective cover (3). Remove the protective cover from nitrogen charging valve (4). Do not use tools to remove the protective cover. Do not turn nitrogen charging valve (4) when you remove the protective cover.
Assemble Tooling (D). Turn the valve on chuck (D9) outward in the counterclockwise direction.
Attach Tooling (D) to nitrogen charging valve (4) on the accumulator.Note: Do not attach the regulator to the high-pressure nitrogen bottle at this time.
Close needle valve (D4) by turning the valve inward in the clockwise direction.
Turn the valve on chuck (D9) inward in the clockwise direction in order to open nitrogen charging valve (4).
Observe the pressure at tooling (D2). Use Tooling (F) in order to check the temperature of the accumulator. Refer to Table 2 for the correct charging pressure.
If the reading on the pressure gauge is too high, slowly open valve (D4) in order to vent some of the pressure. Remove the test equipment.
If the reading on the pressure gauge is too low, proceed to "Charging Procedure".Charging Procedure
Dry nitrogen is the only gas approved for use in the accumulator. Charging the accumulator with oxygen gas will cause an explosion. This danger will not happen if nitrogen cylinders with standard CGA (Compressed Gas Association, Inc.) Number 580 connections are used. When you order nitrogen gas, be sure that the cylinders are equipped with CGA No. 580 Connections. Do not use color codes or other methods of identification to tell the difference between nitrogen and oxygen cylinders.
Gas pressure is variable with the temperature. The accumulator must be at the same temperature as the surrounding air before the accumulator can be charged. Use the following chart for the correct nitrogen charge. Use dry nitrogen.
