This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS5375" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the February 1, 1998 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Problem, Affected Product, Parts Needed, Action Required and Service Claim Allowance.

The bolted joint of the head and piston for the tilt cylinder has been improved to reduce the opportunity of premature failures on certain 990 Wheel Loaders. The current 9T9570 Tilt Cylinder Group has been replaced with a new 1459897 Tilt Cylinder Group. This new design has an improved head and piston retention to improve the reliability of the bolted joint.

Follow the instructions in Service Manual (SENR6655) to remove the existing tilt cylinder from the machine. Replace the failed tilt cylinder group with a new 1459897 Tilt Cylinder Group. Additional Actions: It is also necessary to inspect the identification plate of the tilt cylinder. Cylinders that have been reworked will have an 'R' stamped after the part number. If the cylinder in question falls in the above serial number ranges and does not have an 'R' stamped after the part number on the identification plate, it is necessary to remove the existing head bolt washers and replace all 12 with 7D5238 Washers. Remove each head bolt one at a time. Remove existing washer and replace with new 7D5238 Washer. Reinstall the head bolt and tighten to 3100 350 N m (2300 260 ft-lbs).
The 7D5238 Washer is 62 mm (2.44 in) diameter, while the old 3S6162 Washer measured 67 mm (2.637) diameter and might not fit the existing spot face dimensions.
