Connections of the location code for the Implement ECM
Note: This diagnostic code is associated with the location code for the Implement ECM. The FMI 02 diagnostic code is activated when the software location code for the ECM does not match the hardware location code.The probable causes of this diagnostic code are listed:
The software that has been flashed to the ECM is not the correct version.
The part number of the ECM is not correct.
A location code circuit is incorrectly open or shorted.
The ECM has failed. An ECM failure is unlikely.Note: Do not change the hard wired location code if you have flashed the incorrect software into the control.

210-BK(Black) Test Step 1. Verify the hardware and the software part numbers
Verify that the part number of the software for the ECM is correct. Verify that the part number for the ECM that is being flashed is correct. Expected Result:Consult your technical communicator for the correct software and hardware part numbers for your machine. Ensure that the correct software is installed in the ECM.Results:
YES - The correct software is installed for the correct ECM. Proceed to Test Step 2.
NO - All of the part numbers are not correct. The installed ECM has the wrong part number or incorrect configuration software is installed.Repair: Replace the ECM with a module that has the correct part number or flash the correct configuration software. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Flash Program".STOPTest Step 2. Verify that the location code matches the code in the Cat ET status screenNote: This information (“Location ID”) is shown in “Winflash” in “ECM/File Information”.
Check the status screen of the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) in order to verify the location code. D6T2 - 2
Verify that the connections correspond to Table 1. Expected Result:The location code is correct.Results:
YES - The location code in Cat ET is correct. There is no mismatch.Repair: There is no mismatch.Proceed to Test Step 3.
NO - The location code is not correct.Repair: The problem exists in the machine harness. Correct the harness problem. A key cycle is required in order for the ECM to acknowledge the corrected location code. Repeat this step in order to verify that the hardware and software are correct. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. Inspect harness connections
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 machine harness connectors from the Implement ECM.
Inspect the connections that are related to the location codes. Make sure that the connectors are clean. Make sure that the connectors are in good condition. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connector - Inspect" for more information. Expected Result:The connectors are tight and the machine harness is in good condition.Results:
YES - The connectors are tight and the machine harness is in good condition. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NO - One or more of the machine harness connectors are in need of
