Rework Procedure
Some machines now have the option of installing a PL241 Basic radio solution as an alternative to the PL641 Pro radio solution. If your machine is only reporting hours and location then install the PL241 Basic radio solution. If your machine is using a datalink connection (J1939) to obtain quality data (Fuel Usage, Working/Idle Times, Fault Codes, etc.) then install the PL641 Pro radio solution.
Before going to the Customer Site:
1. If you are installing a PL241, review REHS9757 for all the tools required to perform the 2G-3G upgrade. If you are installing a PL641, review REHS9111.
Note: An Ethernet (425-6889)service tool is required to flash the telematics device and radio.
2. Download the flash files to your PC for updating the PL641 radio:

Note: When installing a PL241 the firmware should be updated remotely through cellular communication (Flash Over The Air - FOTA). Create a System Technology Service Request and submit to Caterpillar to perform an over the air firmware update.
At the machine:
3. Perform installation instructions REHS9757 when installing a PL241. Perform installation instructions REHS9111 when installing a PL641. Carefully check the required parts listed under each group.
4. Make sure to follow the entire process until the device performs a successful communication check.
5. If the device is not communicating, refer to UENR6983 to troubleshoot a PL241, refer to UENR5823 to troubleshoot a PLE641, and refer to UENR5824 to troubleshoot a PL641. Please complete a successful communication check before leaving the machine.
6. After the installation is complete, connect up to the machine using Cat ET, and take a Product Status Report (PSR).
7. Once the installation is completed please send all required documents to your PL Technical Communicator and make sure the Radio MAC address is among that documentation.
8. Contact your local PL administrator to deactivate the current legacy device by canceling the subscription from the VisionLink store.
9. Wait one hour after the subscription is canceled and machine history is canceled. The PL Administrator must then subscribe their new Telematics device. On http://dps.cat.com select My Worklist on the menu bar. On the left hand side of the page, locate your equipment by serial number. Confirm the customer, equipment data, and desired subscription level. Additional information and training can be located at www.dealer.cat.com/pl
Note: The wait time may vary during different times of the day.
Ensure that the Machine Make, Machine Model, and Machine Serial Number are included in the Service Letter claim story.
