Lower the temperature of bearing cups (13) and (14). Install bearing cups (13) and (14) to wheel (3). Install Duo-Cone seal (15). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-Cone Seals - Install".

Attach Tooling (C), Tooling (D), and a suitable lifting device to wheel (3) and position wheel (3). The weight of wheel (3) is approximately 250 kg (550 lb). Attach Tooling (A) to guard assembly (7). Attach Tooling (D) to wheel (3). Attach Tooling (C) to Tooling (A) and Tooling (D) in order to secure wheel (3) .

Position retainers (11) to ring gear (10) .

Raise the temperature of bearing cone (12) and install bearing cone (12) onto hub assembly (5) .

Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (E) to hub assembly (5). The weight of hub assembly (5) is approximately 68 kg (150 lb). Install hub assembly (5) into ring gear (10). Install bolts (9) .

Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (E) to hub assembly (5) and position hub assembly (5) and ring gear (10). The combined weight of hub assembly (5) and ring gear (10) is approximately 159 kg (350 lb).
Use Tooling (F) in order to measure the thickness of retainer (6) at three Locations (X). Average the readings and record the measurement.
Position retainer (6) without shims (8). Install bolts (4) in the numeric sequence that is shown in Illustration 9. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 112 18 N m (83 13 lb ft).
Remove Tooling (D) from both sides of wheel (3). Remove the suitable lifting device from hub assembly (5). Rotate wheel (3) for one full revolution.
Loosen bolts (4) slightly. Tighten bolts (4) according to the tightening sequence in Illustration 9. Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 50 9 N m (37 7 lb ft). Rotate wheel (3) for one full revolution.
Use Tooling (G) in order to take three measurements at Locations (X). Average the readings and record the measurement.
Subtract the measurement that was recorded in Step 8 from the measurement that was recorded in Step 12. Add 0.10 mm (0.004 inch) to this measurement. Record the measurement. This measurement is the total shim pack thickness that is required.
Use Tooling (G) in order to measure the thickness of shims (8). The thickness of shims (8) must be within 0.025 mm (0.0010 inch) of the measurement that was recorded in Step 13.
Attach a suitable lifting device to hub assembly (5). Attach Tooling (D), Tooling (C), and Tooling (E) to wheel (3) in order to secure wheel (3). Remove bolts (4) and retainer (6) .
Position shims (8) and retainer (6). Install bolts (4). Tighten bolts (4) to a torque of 530 70 N m (391 52 lb ft).
