Information:
An 8T2844 Recorder Group is available that consists of three of each of the temperature recorders listed in the chart.
Temperature recorders. The temperature recorders have an adhesive back and can be attached to any clean dry surface. The installed temperature recorder will withstand repeated temperature changes, solvents and water. It can be removed and kept as a permanent record. The temperature recorders provide a quick, easy, inexpensive method to determine a component's surface temperature. They are very useful for checking operating temperatures of the cooling system, engine oil system, hydraulic system and brake system.
Applications For The Temperature Recorders
1. Metal surface temperatures may be determined as follows:a. Clean the metal surface with denatured alcohol or another non-residue cleaner such as electrical contact cleaner.b. The recorders may be used on sand castings, machined surfaces and curved surfaces. Remove the backing from the temperature recorder and press the recorder into position. Rub the entire surface of the recorder to make sure of good contact with the metal surface.c. The surface temperature of the metal is at least as high as the highest temperature recorder window that turns black. Note that there is a temperature range of 5.6°C (10°F) between recorder windows.2. Liquid temperatures (such as hydraulic, brake or engine oil) may be determined as follows:a. Apply the recorder to a metal tube if possible, or to the middle of a larger cast flat surface, over the liquid that is to be measured.b. Clean the surface, where the recorder is to be applied, with denatured alcohol or another non-residue cleaner.c. Remove the backing and press the recorder firmly to the metal surface.d. The above Steps will give a good approximate temperature of the liquid under the metal surface.e. If a more exact temperature is needed, convection losses may be reduced by placing insulation over the recorder. The insulation material should extend approximately 25 mm (1") past the edges of the recorder.f. Temperatures of a radiator top and bottom tank may be approximately determined with the recorders. Do not use the results to find the change in temperature across the radiator.3. Air temperatures (such as air recirculation paths on radiator systems) may be determined as follows:a. Install a wire in the path of the air flow.b. Remove the temperature recorder backing. Fold the top one-fourth of the recorder over the wire and press it against the back of the recorder.c. Position the back face (side without indicator windows) of the recorder toward the air flow. The moving air should contact the back of the recorder.d. The highest air temperature is at least as high as the highest temperature recorder window that turns black. Note that there is a temperature range of 5.6°C (10°F) between recorder windows.
