Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.Do not allow hot oil or components to contact the skin.Be sure that the engine and components are cool enough to touch with your bare hand prior to performing any service work.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Ensure that the turbocharger is clean and free from damage. Inspect the turbocharger for wear. Refer to System Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Turbocharger Inspect" for more information. If the turbocharger is worn, the complete turbocharger must be replaced.

Clean the gasket surface of exhaust manifold (10).
If necessary, install studs (11) to exhaust manifold (10). Apply Tooling (A) to the threads of studs (12). Tighten the studs to a torque of 18 N m (159 lb in).
Position turbocharger (3) on exhaust manifold (10).Note: Ensure that the turbocharger is correctly oriented.
Install nuts (12). Tighten the nuts to a torque of 44 N m (32 lb ft).

Typical example
Remove plugs and caps from tube assemblies. Ensure that tube assembly (5) and tube assembly (6) are clean and free from damage. Replace any damaged components.
Position a new gasket (8) (not shown). Install bolts (8) to tube assembly (6). Tighten bolt (8) to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in).
Install a new sealing washer (9) to bolt (4). Install the bolt (8) to tube assembly (5). Install the remaining new sealing washer (9) to bolt (4).
Position tube assembly (5) onto turbocharger (3). Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 20 N m (177 lb in).

Connect hose assemblies (2) and install clamps (1) to turbocharger (3).
