Remove magnetic plug (4) from final drive (6). Remove O-ring seal (5) (not shown) from the magnetic plug. Remove twenty bolts (7) that secure the final drive to the final drive and brake wheel group.

Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to remove final drive (6) from the final drive and brake wheel group. The final drive weighs 62 kg (137 lb). Remove O-ring seal (8) from the bottom face of the flange on the final drive.

Remove eight bolts (12) and remove retainer plate (13) and shims (14) (not shown). Use two people in order to lift hub (9) and ring gear (10) out of wheel (11). The hub and ring gear assembly weighs approximately 45 kg (100 lb).

Use Tooling (D) to remove snap ring (15) and separate ring gear (10) from hub (9). The ring gear weighs approximately 22 kg (48 lb). The hub weighs approximately 24 kg (52 lb).

Lay hub (9) on a flat surface. Attach Tooling (E) under roller bearing cone (16). Use a suitable spacer betweenTooling (E) and hub (9) in order to protect hub (9). See the arrow in Illustration 6. Use Tooling (E) to remove the roller bearing cone.

Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to remove wheel (11) from brake group (17). The wheel weighs approximately 160 kg (353 lb). Place the wheel on suitable cribbing.

Invert wheel (11) and remove the two Duo-cone seals (18) and (19). Be careful to protect the sealing surfaces of the Duo-cone seals from damage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-cone seals - Remove".

Invert wheel (11). Use a suitable punch and a hammer in order to remove roller bearing cup (20) from the wheel.

Use Tooling (E) in order to remove roller bearing cup (21) from wheel (11) .

Remove Duo-cone seal (23) from brake group (17) and Duo-cone seal (24) from spindle (22). Be careful to protect the sealing surfaces of the Duo-cone seals from damage. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Duo-cone seals - Remove".

Remove six bolts (25) from the underside of brake group (17). The six bolts secure spindle (22) to the brake group.
Insert two 3/8 bolts and screw the bolts into the brake group. See the two white arrows in Illustration 12. This action will cause the piston for the brake to compress the friction discs and plates inside the brake group. The friction discs and plates will be clamped in position.

Use Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device to remove spindle (22) from brake group (17). The spindle weighs approximately 66 kg (146 lb). Remove O-ring seal (26) (not shown) from the bottom face of the spindle.

Lay spindle (22) on a suitable flat surface. Attach Tooling (E) under roller bearing cone (27). Add a spacer to Tooling (E) in order to help extend the reach of the hydraulic cylinder. See the arrow in Illustration 14. Use the tooling to remove the roller bearing cone.
