Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
If the oil becomes contaminated, premature component failure could result. Contaminated oil can also contribute to overheating. Use the following procedure to sample the oil in the hydraulic system.
Start the engine and run the engine at high idle.
Actuate all cylinders through a minimum of ten full cycles.
Actuate the service brakes several times in order to cycle the charging system for the brake accumulators.
Lower the work tools to the ground and stop the engine.
Move all control levers and brake pedals through all positions in order to release any pressure in the hydraulic system.
Start the engine and allow the engine to run at low idle.Note: Do not operate the hydraulic controls.

Remove the dust cap. Draw a 50 mL (1.7 fl oz) oil sample from sampling port (A). The level of contaminants must be lower than the values in the following table.Note: The values in the following table are from the specification ISO 18/15.
