Electric Drive Cooling Fan Solenoid connectionsThe MID 081, CID 3010 diagnostic code is associated with the Electric Drive Cooling Fan Solenoid. The FMI 06 means that the Drivetrain ECM has detected that the current in the solenoid energize circuit is above normal.

Electric Drive Cooling Fan Solenoid (arrow) mounted to the hydraulic fan under the cooling air duct.The Drivetrain ECM provides a PWM output signal to the solenoid in order to control the speed of the hydraulic cooling fan. The ECM will vary the electrical current of the PWM output signal in order to provide proportional control of the solenoid.Circuit conditions that can cause the Drivetrain ECM to activate this diagnostic code are:
The solenoid has failed.
The energize circuit of the solenoid is shorted to a ground source.
The Drivetrain ECM has failed. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The resistance of a good solenoid coil should be 41.0 2.0 ohms at 25 °C (77.0 °F). The acceptable resistance range when adjusted for coil temperature is 31.0 ohms at −40.0° C (−40.0° F) to 67.0 ohms at 121.0° C (249.8° F).Test Step 1. CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE SOLENOID
Turn the battery disconnect switch and the key start switch to the ON position. Do not start the Engine.
Observe the status of the active diagnostic code for the solenoid.
At the Electric Drive Cooling Fan Solenoid, disconnect the machine harness connector from the solenoid connector.Expected Result:The MID 081, CID 3010 FMI 06 diagnostic code is no longer active. The TranmissionECM has activated a MID 081, CID 3010 FMI 05 diagnostic code for current below normal when the solenoid is disconnected.Results:
YES - The condition code changed from an FMI "06" to an FMI "05" condition when the solenoid is disconnected. The solenoid is internally shorted.Repair: Reconnect the harness connector to the solenoid and check the status of the diagnostic code again. If the FMI 06 condition code is activated again for the solenoid, there is an internal short circuit in the solenoid.Replace the Electric Drive Cooling Fan Solenoid.Verify that the new solenoid corrects the problem.STOP
NO - The MID 081, CID 3010 FMI 06 diagnostic code remains active. Disconnecting the solenoid from the circuits does not affect the status of the active diagnostic code. The solenoid is most likely not causing the problem. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE ENERGIZE CIRCUIT OF THE SOLENOID FOR A SHORTThe harness connector remains disconnected from the solenoid.
Turn the key start switch and the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the machine harness connectors J1 and J2 from the Drivetrain ECM.
At the ECM harness connector J1, measure the resistance between the solenoid driver
