5080 (8SL, 6XK) EXCAVATORSProblem:
Some reports have been received of apparent oil leakage between the shaft and the collar of the recently improved track rollers. An assembly lubricant is used as an aid to prevent cutting the O-ring for the shaft when the collars are installed on the track rollers. In some cases, there may be excess lubricant present at the shaft to collar interface. During machine operation, dirt will collect in this area and may appear to be an oil leak.Solution:
Before considering to repair any rollers, wipe this area clean and observe the roller after several days of operation. If the dirt accumulation does not reappear, the roller is operating satisfactorily and no action is necessary. If dirt continues to accumulate after cleaning the area, the track roller should be removed and disassembled. Inspect the roller for possible cuts to the O-ring on the shaft. Repair as needed.COPYRIGHT 1998 CATERPILLAR ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
