Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Remove heat shields, if equipped.
Remove breather tube (3) from valve mechanism cover (1).
Remove bolts (2). Remove valve mechanism cover (1). Remove the gasket from the cylinder head. Installation Procedure
Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

Install the gasket and valve mechanism cover (1) on the cylinder head.
Install bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2) to a torque of 9 N m (80 lb in). Tighten bolts (2) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 2.
Connect breather tube (3) to valve mechanism cover (1).
Install heat shields, if equipped. Note: The heat shields must be kept clean and free from dust, oil, and paint.
