(C) Torque converter scavenge section The power train oil pump is a three-section gear type pump. The pump is mounted to the lower right side of the torque converter housing. The pump is driven by a gear in the torque converter housing.Gear (2), gear (4), and gear (6) are driven by a shaft that is driven by a gear in the torque converter housing. Gear (2) turns idler gear (10), while gear (4) turns idler gear (9) and gear (6) turns idler gear (8).During operation, oil from the bevel gear case enters pump section (B) of the pump through an inlet passage in pump body (3). The oil fills the space between the gear teeth. When the gears turn, oil is sent through an outlet passage in pump body (3) in order to supply the transmission control valves and the brake control valve. Oil from pump section (B) also flows to the transmission main relief valve. Any oil that flows over the relief valve combines with the lubrication oil from pump section (A).Oil from the bevel gear case enters pump section (A) also through an inlet passage in pump body (3). The oil fills the space between the gear teeth. When the gears turn, oil is sent through an outlet passage in pump body (5) in order to supply oil to the torque converter. This oil also provides cooling and lubrication for the brakes, the bevel gear, and the transmission.Oil from the torque converter sump goes through a screen before going through a passage in manifold (1) to pump scavenge section (C). The oil is pumped in the same manner as the other sections. The oil goes out through a passage in manifold (1) and into the oil reservoir in the bevel gear case.
