Remove the tires and rims. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9124, "Tire and Rim- Remove".
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Turn off the engine. Apply the service brake several times in order to relieve the pressure in the brake system. Turn the steering wheel in order to relieve the pressure in the metering pump.

Remove two bolts (1) and the washers that secure cover (2) to the axle.

Loosen brake purging screw (3) in order to release any pressure from the brakes.
Loosen bolts (4) that secure pins (5) in the brake calipers. Move pins (5) far enough out of the caliper in order to remove the brake carriers.

Remove brake carrier (6) from each side of brake disc (7) and the lower retention pins.

Loosen retaining nut (8) in order to disconnect tube (9) from brake caliper (10) .

Attach Tooling (A), a nylon lifting strap and a hoist to brake caliper (10) .

Remove eight bolts (11) and the washers that secure brake caliper (10) to the axle. Remove brake caliper (10) from the axle. The weight of brake caliper (10) is 50 kg (110 lb).Note: All of the service brakes will be removed in the same manner as this procedure.
