Power Flow for the Steering Motor

Power Flow Schematic (1) Carrier (6) Stationary ring gear (7) Carrier (8) Outer axle shaft (9) Sun gear (10) Planetary gears (12) Center axle shaft (14) Planetary gears (15) Outer axle shaft (16) Bevel gear (17) Steering pinion (18) Sun gear (B) Steering power flowNote: Illustration 3 shows the power flow for a machine that is counterrotating counterclockwise. The power flow is only from the steering input. With the transmission in the NEUTRAL position, power from the steering motor flows through steering pinion (17) to bevel gear (16) .Bevel gear (16) sends the power through planetary gears (14) to carrier (1). Power through carrier (1) flows in two directions.Half of the power flows through the planetary gears to sun gear (18). The other half of the power flows to outer axle shaft (15). Sun gear (18) sends the power through center axle shaft (12) to sun gear (9) .The power is multiplied and the power is sent to outer axle shaft (8) by the following gears: Sun gear (9), planetary gears (10), carrier (7) and stationary ring gear (6) .The power is equal at both outer axle shafts. The shafts rotate in opposite directions. Consequently, the machine will rotate around the machine's center.

The power flow is for the transmission input and the steering input combined. The power from the transmission input will flow through the system in the usual way when the power comes from both the steering motor and the transmission input. When the input is only from the steering motor, the power flow is in two directions. When the input is from the steering motor and the transmission, the power from the steering input flows through the system in one direction or in the other direction.Because the power to one outer axle shaft is greater than the other shaft, the speed of that shaft increases and the speed of the other outer axle shaft decreases. The amount of power to the axle shaft and the rotation of the axle shaft is controlled by the transmission. The amount of speed difference between the axle shafts and the direction of the turn are controlled by the steering motor. The rotation of the steering motor and steering pinion
