Information:
1. Remove guard (5). Disconnect the wire harness from the sensor behind guard (5).2. Remove bolts (1), washers (2), the grommets and spacers, housing (4) and spacers (3) from the transfer gear case.3. Remove shaft (6) if necessary. The following steps are for installation of the transmission electronic speed sensor.4. If shaft (6) was removed, install shaft (6) in the transmission and transfer gears as shown. 5. Push shaft (6) into the transmission as far as it will go. Measure the distance from the end of shaft (6) to gasket surface as shown. This dimension must be a minimum of 36 mm (1.42 in).6. Put spacer (3) and housing (4) in position on the transfer gear case. Put the spacers in position in the bolt holes with the large end in. Put the grommets in position over the spacers with the small end in.7. Install three washers (2) and bolts (1). Connect the wire harness to the sensor.8. Start By:a. remove transmission electronic speed sensor 1. Remove sensor (2) from housing (1).2. Remove the O-ring seal from sensor (2). 3. Turn gear (3) so that four bolts (4) can be seen through the openings in the gear.4. Remove four bolts (4) that hold the retainer to housing (1). Remove gear (3) and the retainer from the housing. 5. Remove spiral ring (6) that holds bearing (5) to the hub of gear (3). 6. Remove bearing (5) from the gear hub with tooling (A).7. Remove retainer (7) from gear (3). The following steps are for the assembly of the transmission electronic speed sensor 8. Put retainer (7) in position on gear (3) as shown.9. Put gear (3) and retainer (7) in a press, and press bearing (5) into position against the shoulder of the gear hub with tool (B).10. Install spiral ring (6) in the groove to hold the bearing in position on the gear hub. 11. Put the gear in position in housing (1). Rotate the retainer so that edge (9) is over hole (8) in the housing. Install the four bolts that hold the retainer to the housing.12. Put the O-ring seal on sensor (2). 13. Pry out the nose piece on the new sensor with a small screwdriver. There are slots provided on three sides of the nose piece for the screwdriver. The nose piece should extend approximately 6.35 mm (.25 inch) from the threads.14. Install the new sensor in housing (1). Tighten the sensor to a torque of 20 to 27 N m (15 to 20 lb ft).15. As the sensor is tightened, the nose piece will contact the gear teeth and move back into the sensor body. The nose piece is at the correct air gap and no other adjustments are required.End By:a. install transmission electronic speed sensor
