Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

Remove plug (1) and remove the bypass valve that is inside, if equipped.Note: The bypass valve for the oil cooler is not installed on current 3054 Engines.
Remove bolts (6) in order to disconnect two oil hoses (7) from engine oil cooler (2) .
Remove bolts (5) and nuts (3) from the cover of engine oil cooler (2) .
Remove engine oil cooler (2) and the gasket from the cylinder block.
Remove nuts (4) in order to remove the element for the engine oil cooler.
Clean the element for the engine oil cooler.Note: Make sure that no cleaning solution enters the element. Ensure that the cleaning solution will not damage the copper. After you clean the element, dry the element with low pressure air hose and flush the element with clean engine oil.
