Information:
Use this procedure in order to troubleshoot a high coolant temperature or use this procedure if one of the following event codes is active. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Event Code List" for the default conditions for these codes.
Table 1
Event Code
Description Default Conditions which Generate this Code System Response
E007(2) High Aftercooler Temperature Derate The aftercooler temperature is above the trip point temperature. The engine will be derated.
The code is logged.
E008(3) High Aftercooler Temperature Shutdown The aftercooler temperature is above the trip point temperature. The engine will shut down. The code is logged.
E017(1) High Engine Coolant Temperature Warning The engine coolant temperature is above the trip point temperature. The code is logged.
E015(2) High Engine Coolant Temperature Derate The engine coolant temperature is above the trip point temperature. The engine will be derated.
The code is logged.
E016(3) High Engine Coolant Temperature Shutdown The engine coolant temperature is above the trip point temperature. The engine will shut down. The code is logged. Probable Causes
Low coolant level
Radiator
Coolant leak
Faulty radiator cooling fan (if applicable)
Faulty pressure relief valve
Faulty temperature regulator
Faulty jacket water coolant pump
Excessive load on the engineRecommended Actions
Low Coolant Level
Inspect the coolant level. If necessary, add coolant.Radiator
Check the cooling fins on the radiator for dirt and/or for debris. Remove the dirt and/or debris.
Check the cooling fins on the radiator for damage. Refer to the Systems Operation/Testing and Adjusting manual for instructions for testing and inspecting the cooling system.
Check the radiator for internal blockage. Check the temperature difference between the inlet and the outlet of the radiator. Coolant Leak
Check the cooling system for leaks.
Inspect the coolant for presence of bubbles.
Check the cooling system for combustion gases. Inspect the cylinder liners for cracks. Faulty Engine Cooling Fan (if applicable)
Check for proper operation of the cooling fan.Faulty Pressure Relief Valve
Check operation of the pressure relief valve and the radiator cap. If necessary, clean the pressure relief valve and/or the radiator cap. Check that the seating surface of the valve is clean and undamaged. If necessary, install new parts.Faulty Temperature Regulator
Check the water temperature regulators for correct operation.Faulty Jacket Water Coolant Pump
Inspect the impeller vanes at the jacket water pump for damage and/or for erosion. Repair impeller vanes and/or replace the impeller vanes.Load on the system
Check that the engine is not loaded beyond design.
