(1) Pressurized oil (2) Pressurized gasThe accumulator stores potential energy by accumulating a quantity of pressurized hydraulic fluid. The pressurized fluid is stored in a piston type accumulator. The pressurized fluid enters the accumulator into cavity (1) and the fluid creates pressure against the piston and the charged dry nitrogen. Cavity (2) contains dry nitrogen that is charged to 1800 kPa (261 psi).The accumulator is used as an aid for the quick-drop function. When the quick drop valve is activated, stored pressurized oil from the accumulator is used to facilitate faster activation of the quick-drop clutch especially during cold ambient conditions.The accumulator is also used in order to lower the hook in the event of a dead engine. In order to lower the hook, the key must be in the ON position. The operator must move the hook control forward and to the left. When the hook control is in this position, the stored oil in the accumulator will be released. A portion of the released oil moves the spool of the quick-drop valve to the OPEN position. The rest of the stored oil is released to activate the quick drop clutch. When the quick drop clutch is activated, the hook will lower.
