EMS Display and Functions.EMS is an electronic monitoring system designed to display various engine/transmission parameters. The display technology provides excellent visibility at various light conditions, and also supports various back light options.EMS incorporates three individual gauge units which can be located in variable installation conditions to enhance pilot and vessel operation from primary and remote positions. One main EMS gauge unit is required for each engine at each desired pilot station. The tachometer and/or quad-gauge unit is optional, however, these two units will NOT operate without connection to a main EMS unit. The following information describes the functions of each gauge unit.* The main EMS gauge unit has ten (two rows of five) indicators to display system related diagnostics. A digital LCD is functional to scroll through the different engine/transmission parameters monitored. The monitored parameters include the following functions. Engine Overspeed (Main and Back-up Speed Sensors)Engine Oil PressureEngine Coolant Temperature and Coolant LevelTransmission Oil Pressure and Oil TemperatureEngine HoursFuel Rate (Throttle) andPercent Load (Actuator).
EMS gauge units wiring diagram using 121-4017 Harness.* The quad-gauge unit displays in analog format engine oil pressure, engine coolant temperature, transmission oil pressure and transmission oil temperature.* The tachometer unit displays engine speed (rpm) on an analog gauge. A three-digit LCD indicator displays vessel speed and a two-digit indicator displays trolling mode status or synchronization mode status.The electronic control system (ECM) processes engine/transmission parameters and diagnostic information. The parameters will then be transmitted to EMS through the data link. The main EMS unit receives and displays the information on various gauges. Only two wires are required from the ECM to EMS to transmit/receive all engine/transmission parameters.Communication Data Link
EMS provides two output pins that are dedicated to the CAT data link (Pin-5 and Pin-6). The link is available to share data with other modules on the link (which essentially allows the EMS, CMS and ECM to communicate when connected together).CAT Data Link
1. Connect Pin-3 (CAT data link -) of the P1 (40-Pin ECM Customer Connector) to Pin-5 (Data -) of the J1 (12-Pin Customer Connector).2. Connect Pin-9 (CAT data link +) of the P1 (40-Pin ECM Customer Connector to Pin-6 (Data +) of the J1 (12-Pin Customer Connector). For the connections in Step 1 and Step 2, use twisted pair of shielded 16 AWG wires, approximately three twists per 25.4 mm (1.00 in) to connect CAT data link (+) and CAT data link (-). The length of the wires should NOT exceed 40 m (130 ft).
Connect only ONE end of the shield to (-)Battery Bus Bar. Do NOT ground the other end of the shield.

EMS Gauge Dimensions and Mounting Requirements. Each EMS module (gauge unit) has identical dimensions. The mounting options with bezels are described below.Each module can be mounted from either the front or rear, and with or without a decorative bezel. Each module has a 5 mm (0.2 in) tapped hole in each corner (four holes), a 4 mm (0.16 in) clearance hole in each corner, and four 6 mm
