Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
An issue with the Product Link PL121, 330-3408 Communication Software Gp and 325-6574 Communication Software Gp , causes the PL321 Product Link system to report incorrect positions. The PL321 Product Link system reports the location of the machine to be at least 5000 km (3106 miles) from the actual location. This issue is more typical in machines that have recently been shipped from the factory. The issue for PL321 has the following symptoms:
All of the positions that are reported in the EquipmentManager have not changed from the time of registration. The summary for the location will show the location as "Last Known".
The time stamp for the GPS will not change in the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET). The position in Cat ET will be "Invalid".
The orange LED blinks ON and OFF. The LED will blink until the GPS receiver has four or more satellites are received. The LED will be solid orange when the satellites are received. After 20 seconds have passed, the yellow LED and orange LED turn OFF. The yellow LED and orange LED may be OFF for several minutes before the entire cycle begins to repeat. Note: A module that is reporting a Lat 90 / Lon 0 Cape Morris Jesup, Greenland location is not experiencing this issue. Not experiencing this issue is an indication of a potential problem with the antenna. Refer to Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7911 for more information on troubleshooting procedures for the antenna. This issue is unlikely that this issue will arise during a field installation or during a software update. This issue may occur on a PL121 system. The issue should be resolved during the registration of the PL121 system. The issue will remain after the registration of a PL321 system.Solution
An interim solution has been developed whereas the problem is corrected as part of an end of line test at some factories (machine). Additionally, a remote message is sent automatically when the Product Link system is initially registered. This message will prompt the system to reset the machines indicated location. Thus, the machine is allowed to resume normal operation. If symptoms continue after the registration, contact the Technical Communicator at your dealership. Ask the Technical Communicator to submit a request for service to the DSN. Then, Caterpillar will remotely send a message to the Product Link system that will reset the machines indicated location. Reseting the machines indicated location will allow the machine to resume normal operation.Note: Do NOT replace any hardware. Do NOT attempt to update the position of the machine by manually queuing a request in Cat ET or EquipmentManager. Manually queuing a request will interfere with the implementation of the interim solution.
