Flushing The Hydrostatic System
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
After the failure of a component or after the replacement of a component, change all filters and clean all strainers. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly for the procedure to disassemble the return block that is attached to the hydraulic tank.If the oil becomes contaminated, premature component failure could result. Contaminated oil can also contribute to overheating. Use the following procedure to sample the oil in the system.Flush the Implement Lines
Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
Lower the work tool to the ground. Stop the engine.
Engage the parking brake.
Connect the steering frame lock.
Sit in the seat and fasten the seat belt.
Apply the service brake.
Move the directional control lever to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake.
Press the speed select switch in the SLOW mode.
Start the engine and run the engine at low idle.
Increase the engine to high idle.
Move each attachment control lever one at a time to the FULL positions. Hold each attachment control lever for 7 to 13 seconds in the FULL position.
Decrease the engine speed to low idle. Apply the service brake pedal. Move the direction control lever to the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake.Note: This flushes the implement lines.Flush the Lines
Remove the hydraulic tank filler cap (A).
Install one end of the 177-7860 Hose Assembly to port (5). Place the other end of the hose into the hydraulic tank filler neck.
Apply the parking brake and engage the service brakes.
Start the engine and set the engine speed to low idle.
Disengage the parking brake.
Place the direction control into the FORWARD position.
Slowly increase the engine speed to high idle.
Check that all air is purged from (5) X2 port.
Place the direction control into the NEUTRAL position.
Immediately remove the 177-7860 Hose Assembly from port (5).
Install one end of the 177-7860 Hose As to port (4). Place the other end of the hose into the hydraulic tank filler neck.
Apply the parking brake and engage the service brakes.
Start the engine and set the engine speed to low idle.
Disengage the parking brake.
Place the direction control into the REVERSE position.
Slowly increase the engine speed to high idle.
Check that all air is purged from (4) X1 port.
Place the direction control into the NEUTRAL position.
Immediately remove the 177-7860 Hose Assembly from port (4).
Place the direction control into the FORWARD position.
Slowly increase the engine speed to high idle.
Disengage the parking brake.
Slowly increase the engine speed to high idle
