Parts Required
The installation requires the use of an Electronic Service Tool equipped with the proper software for the installed engine. The use of appropriate Engine Troubleshooting Guides and Schematics (from Service Manual) is recommended to aid OEM customer installation of electronic components and systems. Operator Station Grounding Connections
Improper grounding will cause uncontrolled and unreliable circuit paths. This can result in damage to the engine crankshaft main bearings, crankshaft journal surfaces or other engine components. This may also cause electrical activity which may degrade vessel electronics and communication equipment.
All engine ECMs must be connected to the Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar. Caterpillar recommends a separate Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar for all engine ECM connected electronics. This ensures that the ECM and all associated components, including switches, sensors and electronic display modules have a common reference point. All -Battery connections should begin at -Battery connection of the component being wired and terminate at the -Battery Bus Bar.The connection from the Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar to the bridge display Station -Battery Bus Bar should be made with a minimum of 12 AWG wire. Each Station -Battery Bus Bar is for the display modules only and should not have any other electrical components connected to it.1. Connect from the Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar to the minus battery pin on the ECM Customer Connector using 14 AWG wire. Refer to the table for the proper pin numbers for your engine arrangement. 2. Connect from the Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar to the Display -Battery Bus Bar at Station 1 using 12 AWG wire minimum.3. Connect from the Engine Room -Battery Bus Bar to the Display -Battery Bus Bar at Station 2 using 12 AWG wire minimum.

Avoid splicing or soldering wire connections. All connections should be terminated at terminal strips to ensure engine and communication systems reliability. Refer to the table below for the proper pin numbers for your engine arrangement. Engine Room Connections
