Information:
Start By:a. remove front wheel bearings and Duo-Cone seals Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools and Shop Product Guide, NENG2500", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
At operating temperature, hydraulic oil tank is hot and under pressure. Hot oil can cause burns. Remove the breather filter cap only when the engine is stopped and the breather filter cap is cool enough to touch. Slowly loosen the breather filter cap to release any pressure in the hoist, torque converter and brake hydraulic tank. Be cautious of hot hydraulic oil when any lines are disconnected in the hydraulic system.
1. Mark for installation purposes, and disconnect three hydraulic hoses (2). Remove bracket (1). Cap and plug all connections to prevent oil loss and to keep contaminants out of the hydraulic system. 2. Install Tool (A) on front service brake assembly (3). Attach lifting slings to Tool (A) and a suitable lifting device. Remove nuts (4) and the washers. Remove front service brake assembly (3). The weight of front service brake assembly (3) is 250 kg (550 lb). 3. Remove O-ring seal (5) from the front service brake assembly. Check the O-ring seal for wear or damage, and replace if necessary. 4. Remove retainer (6) from the wheel spindle. 5. Remove O-ring seal (7) from the retainer. Check the O-ring seal for wear or damage, and replace if necessary. For installation of the front service brake assembly, reverse the removal steps.6. During installation of the front service brake, tighten nuts (4) to a torque of 790 40 N m (585 30 lb ft).7. Fill the brake system with oil to the correct level. Refer to the Operation & Maintenance Manual for further information.8. Remove (bleed) the air from the brake system. Refer to the topic "Removing Air from Hydraulic Brake System," in the Systems Operation Testing & Adjusting, Air Systems & Brake module, SENR6917.End By:a. install front wheel bearings and Duo-Cone sealsDisassemble & Assemble Front Service Brake
Start By:a. remove front service brake 1. Remove bolts (1) and the washers from brake assembly (2). 2. Install two 3/8 in - 16 Forged Eyebolts (3) in plate assembly (4). Fasten lifting slings and a suitable lifting device to the forged eyebolts on plate assembly (4). Remove plate assembly (4). The weight of plate assembly (4) is 57 kg (125 lb). 3. Block plate assembly (4) as shown. Using Tool (A), compress springs (6). Remove the retaining pins (not shown). Remove guides (5) and springs (6). 4. Using a soft faced hammer, separate plate assembly (4) by tapping on piston (7) while lifting on the plate as shown. The weight of plate assembly (4) is 36 kg (80 lb).
