When submitting claim for Parts Stock Action, Use the appropriate 99Z as the s/n, the appropriate Service Letter Program Number as the Part number in the Part Causing Failure field, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM
The existing 8N-1721 and 8N-1984 Connecting Rod Assemblies can fail. If the existing connecting rod assembly fails it can cause damage to the engine.
ACTION REQUIRED
1. Remove all 8N-1721 and 8N-1984 Connecting Rod Assemblies and Service kits or Piston Packs that contain a suspect connecting rod assembly from dealer parts stock with manufacturing date codes between April 2011 (11 04) and December 2012 (12 12). Refer to Image 1 showing the serial number information on the side of a connecting rod assembly. The middle line contains two pair of digits. The first pair of digits represents the production year and the second pair represents the production month.
2. Identification of new part versus Reman components.
Rod assemblies that have been processed through the Reman remanufacturing process are acceptable to use. Identification of Reman parts can be confirmed by the presence of the CAT logo and Reman part number printed on the bottom of the connecting rod cap. Refer to Image 2 and 3 below.
3. The following list of part numbers for Service kits, Piston Packs, and Rod Assembly boxes may contain defective factory connecting rod assemblies. Dealers are advised not to use any factory new connecting rod assemblies that are found in the kits or assemblies prior to examination for affected connecting rod build dates.

A PRR will be issued to you through the Send-It-Back process after the claim is submitted. Make sure to list the service letter program on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.

Hold all suspect 8N-1721 and 8N-1984 connecting rod assemblies and Service kits or Piston Packs that contain a suspect connecting rod assembly for a possible Parts Return Request (PRR). A PRR will be issued to you through the Send-It-Back process after the claim is submitted. Make sure to list the service letter program on the packing slip and include the closed work order paperwork.
If a PRR is not issued to you after 30 days through the Send-It-Back process, handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warrenty parts handling.
