Typical Example (1) Output shaft. (2) Gear. (3) Shims. (4) Roller bearing cone. (5) Spacer. (6) Cage.Perform the following procedure in order to adjust the bearing end play for the output transfer gear.
Install gear (2) on output shaft (1) .
Heat roller bearing cone (4) to 135 °C (275 °F) for two hours. Install the roller bearing onto output shaft (1) .
Install the output shaft assembly into the transmission case.
Install spacer (5) onto output shaft (1) .
Install the bearing cup, the O-ring seal and the lip seal onto cage (6). Lubricate the O-ring and the bore of the transmission case.
Install two screw in dowel pins in the transmission case.
Install shims (3) onto the dowel pins.
Install cage (6) onto transmission case.
Remove dowel pins. Install ten bolts. Torque the bolts to 105 20 N m (77 15 lb ft).
Use a magnetic base and a dial indicator in order to check end play of the output shaft. The end play on the output shaft should be 0.05 to 0.15 mm (.002 to .006 inch).
