Remove Turbocharger
Fluid Spillage Containment
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to "Tools And Shop Products Guide", NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Loosen hose clamps (1). Remove bolts (2) and (3) from the oil supply and drain lines.2. On 3412 engines, do Step 1 and also remove water line (4). 3. Disconnect oil supply line (5) from the cylinder block. Cap and plug all openings immediately. 4. Remove bolt (6) and remove tube (7). 5. Remove turbocharger bell (8) and water line (9). 6. Disconnect bleed line (11) and water line (10). Cap and plug all openings immediately.7. Disconnect waste gate line (13) and air manifold tube (12). Cap and plug all openings immediately. 8. Fasten Tooling (A) and a hoist to the turbocharger. Remove nuts (14) and remove turbocharger (13). The weight of the turbocharger is approximately 41 kg (90 lb).Install Turbocharger
1. Put turbocharger (1) in position and install nuts (2). 2. Connect air manifold tube (6) and waste gate line (5).3. Connect water line (4) and bleed line (3). 4. Install turbocharger bell (7) and water line (8). 5. Install tube (10) with the bolt (9) that holds it. 6. Connect oil supply line (11) to the cylinder block. 7. Install bolts (13) and (14) that holds oil supply and drain lines. Tighten hose clamps (12).8. On 3412 engines, do Step 7 and install water line (15).Disassemble Turbocharger

Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates. 1. Install turbocharger in Tooling (A). Put marks on the three housings of the turbocharger for correct installation and alignment at assembly. Remove "V" clamp (2) and compressor housing (1). 2. Remove "V" clamp (3). Remove the cartridge housing (5) from the turbine housing (4).
When the nut is loosened, do not put a side force on the shaft.
3. Install Tool (C) in Tool (B) and put the cartridge assembly in Tool (C) as shown. Use Tool (D) to remove the nut that holds compressor wheel (6).
The oil used to heat the compressor wheel must have a flash point (the temperature at which the oil will burn) above 204 °C (400 °F).
4. Install Tool (H) on Tool (E). Heat Tool (E) to 177 °C (350 °F). Install the cartridge assembly on Tool (H) so that only the compressor wheel is in the
