( 1 ) If the multimeter is not available, use a multimeter that is capable of measuring resistance or use an ohmmeter.
Turn OFF the monitoring system's power supply.

Loosen retaining bolt (1) and disconnect connector (2) from plug (3) .If the retaining bolt has been overtightened, the connector's threaded fastener could be broken. This causes a loose connection that can result in intermittent problems. If this is the case, replace the connector.
Inspect plug (3) for moisture and corrosion. The receptacle can also be removed from connector (2) for inspection.
Connect a multimeter to terminals 1 and 2 on plug (3). Set the multimeter to the "Ohms" scale.Note: The resistance of the RTD varies with the temperature.
Note the temperature of the RTD. Compare the resistance to the values that are listed in Table 2.

Troubleshoot the electrical connectors and the wiring.If the resistance is not correct, the RTD is not functioning correctly. Replace the element, if necessary.Note: To help locate the source of a problem, a calibration tool can be connected to the RTD or to the terminal strip. (1) Connector (2) Thermowell (3) ElementThe RTD has three serviceable parts: connector (1), thermowell (2) and element (3) .The connector has a receptacle that can be removed by inserting a small screwdriver into a slot on the edge of the mating surface. Carefully pry the receptacle from the connector's housing.The sturdy thermowell is unlikely to need replacement.An O-ring seal is installed between the element's integral plug and the thermowell. An external seal is installed between the connector and the element. Be careful not to overtighten the retaining bolt when the connector is attached to the element.
