Some issues have been occurring with starting Caterpillar Motor Graders in cold weather. The issues are occurring in altitudes of 914 m (3000 ft) to 3353 m (11000 ft). The issues with cold starting are also occurring at temperatures of −18 °C (0 °F) to −45 °C (−50 °F).
Refer to Special Instruction, REHS3702, "Procedure to Improve the Cold Starting Capability for the 140H and 143H Motor Grader" in order to improve the cold weather starting capabilities on Caterpillar Motor Graders. The improvements for cold weather starting include the following.
An ether valve
A control fitting
An atomizer
The ether software also needs to be updated. Use 295-0119 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp on 140H. Use 295-0575 Engine Ratings Electronic Software Gp on 143H.Note: Both the cold weather starting aids and the ether software will convert the pulse system that is currently used to a continuous flow system.
