140M Series 3 2 Turns + 60° 60 °
160M Series 3 2 Turns + 60° 60 °
(1) Tolerance is measured in degrees of rotation of the adjustment knobIntroduction
This test determines the amount of wear to the brake discs, which determines if the brake pack needs to be replaced. The test may also indicate brake plate warpage, which indicates overheating of the system. The adjustment keeps piston travel to a minimum.Reference: Refer to the Systems Operation, "Service Brakes" for additional information concerning the Compensator.Note: This test is only valid when piston (2) is fully compressed against brake pack (1).Required Tooling
Tooling is not required for this procedure.Check Preparation
Lower all implements to the ground, set the parking brake, shut off the engine, and chock the rear wheels. Brake Wear Indicator Check
Introduction
This check will verify the amount of wear that has occurred in the brake pack.Required Tool
Tooling is not required for this procedure.Check Preparation
Move the machine to a smooth, horizontal location. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel. Place the transmission direction control switch in the NEUTRAL position. Engage the parking brake. Lower the work tools to the ground. Stop the engine and place chocks in front of the wheels and behind the wheels. Perform the Check Procedure

Remove cap (2) to allow visual access to indicator (23)
Place the brakes in the FULLY APPLIED position.
Compare indicator (1) to surface (3)
(AA) Brakes have sufficient pad remaining. Surface (3) is between the end of the pin and the shoulder.
(BB) Brakes require replacement. The end of the pin of the indicator is flush or below surface (3).
(CC) Brakes are possibly warped. The shoulder of the pin protrudes beyond (3).Setting the Compensator

(1) Tolerance is measured in degrees of rotation of the adjustment knobIntroduction
Compensator (7) is preset at the factory. The factory setting will allow compensator (7) to travel a predetermined amount prior to hitting piston (6).Set the compensator to limit the amount of travel of the piston.Reference: Refer to the Systems Operation, "Service Brakes" for additional information concerning the Compensator.Required Tooling
Tooling is not required for this procedure.Test Preparation
Lower all implements to the ground. and chock the rear wheels and set the parking brake. Perform the Adjustment Procedure
Illustration 2 g03587373
Cut away of the compensator adjustment screw.
Depress the brake pedal in order to compress piston (5) fully against brake pack (4).
Loosen nut (6) completely, until the nut contacts the head of compensator (7).
Back off compensator (7) several turns. Then turn compensator (7) back in until the compensator (7) contacts piston (5). Refer to Table 2 for the correct distance to back compensator (7) out from piston (5).
Hold compensator (7) in position from Step 3. Then tighten nut (6) to 65 10 N m
