Removal Procedure
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses and tubes. This helps prevent fluid loss and contamination of the oil system.
Articulate the machine all the way to the left. Articulating the machine will allow better access to the steering cylinder. Move the engine start key to the OFF position. Place blocks in front of all wheels. Place blocks in back of all four wheels. The blocks will prevent any movement.
Release the hydraulic pressure. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".

Remove cover (1) .

Remove plate (4). Remove pin (3). Disconnect hose assemblies (5) and (6) from steering cylinder (7) .

Remove plate (8). Disconnect hose assembly (9). Disconnect grease hose assembly (11) from pin (10). Remove pin (10) from steering cylinder (7) .

Attach a suitable lifting device to steering cylinder (7). The weight of steering cylinder (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb).Note: Remove steering cylinder (7) from the front of the machine.Installation Procedure

Attach a suitable lifting device to steering cylinder (7). The weight of steering cylinder (7) is approximately 25 kg (55 lb). Install steering cylinder (7) into the front of the machine.

Install pin (10) into steering cylinder (7). Connect hose assembly (9). Connect grease hose assembly (11) on pin (10). Install plate (8) .

Install pin (3). Install plate (4). Connect hose assembly (5) and (6) onto steering cylinder (7).
