Information:
Water-glycol fluid must not be mixed with petroleum base oil. If the system becomes contaminated with petroleum based products, shut down the vehicle immediately. Oil contamination mixed with water-glycol will cause a sludge that plugs filters.
Contact your Caterpillar dealer for proper procedure to flush and clean the system.Typical Hydraulic System Locking Cover
A special locking cover is provided for the hydraulic system filler cap to help prevent the addition of oil to the system. This cover should be removed only by authorized personnel. See applicable Lubrication & Maintenance Guide of model to be serviced. Guide will show location of drain and level plugs, filters, and other components that require special attention.Every 10 Service Hours Or Daily
Hydraulic Control System
>Use water-glycol fluid only.
1. Machine must be level, equipment flat on ground and engine stopped. Remove the locking cap and filler cap.2. Check fluid level at beginning of work day when fluid is cool. Fluid level should be visible in sight glass. The level should be above the FULL mark on gauge.Every 500 Service Hours Or 3 Months
1. Machine level, equipment flat on ground, engine stopped, and parking brake set. Move hydraulic controls to relieve system pressure.
Do not remove the hydraulic system filler cap when the system temperature is above 190°F [87.7°C], as the water in the fluid will escape under pressure as steam.
Some hydraulic systems are equipped with a metallic filter element in addition to one or more filter elements. Wash metallic element, or replace metallic element if it is damaged. Replace all other elements.2. Remove cap lock. Loosen tank filler cap slowly to relieve tank pressure.3. Remove filter housing drain plug (if equipped) and drain housing. Clean and install drain plug.4. Remove cover, screen and element from filter housing.5. Remove screen and elements from cover. Wash screen and metallic element (if equipped) in clean, warm water.6. Inspect seal. Install new seal if necessary.7. Install screen and new elements to cover.8. Install cover and element assemblies.9. Fill to above FULL mark in sight gauge. Leave filler cap loose.10. Make sure hydraulic controls are in HOLD.11. Start engine.12. Check fluid level and add fluid if necessary. Tighten filler cap.13. Install and lock cap.Every 500 Service Hours Or 3 Months
1. Machine level, all equipment lowered, engine stopped and parking brake applied.
